Hello
My name is James Howard. I'm a volunteer for Guitar 4 Vets and teach guitar to veterans.
I've been playing guitar for 40 years and played as my primary source of income throughout my twenty's. I lived in Dayton, Ohio in those days and had the privilege of playing on a regular basis at Wright Patterson Airforce base. The band I was in would play the officers and non commissioned officers clubs on base. We also played wedding receptions in the large ball room for higher ranking officers sons and daughters and played New Years Eve at the base in the late 1980's.
When I found out about Guitars 4 Vets, I immediately volunteered. It's been a privilege to work with veterans, not only to teach them guitar but to see the therapeutic value playing an instrument has in their lives.
Guitars 4 Vets is also grateful for the hospitality that the Post Falls, ID American Legion has provided in offering us space in their facility to conduct our guitar lessons. Our goal is to increase enrollment of the Guitar 4 Vets program to veterans who match the criteria and to bring on additional teachers as the program grows.
It's an honor to serve our veterans by teaching them guitar and getting to know them. Sometimes we stick to the lesson and other times they simply need a listening ear so they can express themselves.
I know I have been blessed to be a part of this program and I have received many benefits from working with the veterans. It's a great program for the veterans and the instructors and the lives of all involved can be enriched.
